 “Interpreting in Emotionally Charged Situations”

Level: Extensive Target Audience: Interpreters and ITP students 

The primary goal of this workshop is to help interpreters to better address the safety and recovery needs of deaf individuals impacted by various kinds of abuse. This workshop will also provide participants with an understanding to barriers in accessing help. Will help interpreters understand how to interpret Adult assessment and intervention strategies. Participants will leave the workshop with a n understanding on how to interpret a danger assessment, better understand manifestations of Violence scale, what can go wrong in police or CPS investigation and more. 

 

“Deliberate Practice: Techniques to Improve Interpreting Skills” Erin Seipke-Brown & Megan Seipke-Dame

 Saturday, May 2, 2015 1pm - 4pm 

“The Barn” 4189 Keewahdin Rd, Fort Gratiot, MI 48059 

Level: Little/None Target Audience: K-12 Educational interpreters and 1 on 1 educators 

Presenters will summarize the concept of Deliberate Practice and its applications. Through the use of ASL Expansion Techniques, participants will be able to analyze a variety of scenarios to determine appropriate expansion techniques for improved message clarity. Participants will also learn strategies to apply Deliberate Practice to simultaneous and consecutive interpretations as related to their individualized professional growth plans.
