Participants will gain an overview of Children’s Protective Services (CPS) and their function in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and their families. We will touch upon the basics of the Forensic Interviewing Protocol, Home Assessments, Parental Interviews and a CPS investigation from intake to Adjudication.

“Practical Considerations for Medical Interpreting” *

This workshop will explore some practical considerations for medical interpreting. Topics covered in this course include:  strategies for obtaining the pertinent information before going to an assignment, things to consider when dressing for a medical appointment, review of resources for medical terms and signs, exploring the nuance of English as used in the medical setting, hands up practice with interpreting medical jargon and technical English used in the medical setting

 “Deliberate Practice: Techniques to Improve Interpreting Skills”*

1 pm - 4 pm 

 Presenters will summarize the concept of Deliberate Practice and its applications. Through the use of ASL Expansion Techniques, participants will be able to analyze a variety of scenarios to determine appropriate expansion techniques for improved message clarity. Participants will also learn strategies to apply Deliberate Practice to simultaneous and consecutive interpretations as related to their individualized professional growth plans.

Level: Little/None Target Audience: K-12 Educational interpreters and 1 on 1 educators
